“You don’t get anything clean without getting something else dirty”
Using this quote as my muse for this series of work, I hope to surface the weight of emotional weariness and mental toll experienced by individuals throughout the years of selfless contributions.
Using the visuals of bright colors contrasting with grimy janitorial corners, I bring out the displacement between ideals and reality.
The mind often chooses to overlook the desolate, favoring the visually poignant for assistance and reward.
Prior to the creation of this series, I was attracted to the concept of cleaning, of exacerbating filth and the laborious process of making things presentable for the world. Throughout my years as an educator, i start to equate this act of cleaning to the act of teaching, and the act of advocating for social change.
